British championship at Lydden

Aspirant European championship competitor Andy Scott wins the first round of the British Rallycross Championship at Lydden, guiding his Focus II to victory ahead of the older versions of Andy Grant and Pat Doran. Using the event as a test outing for the forthcoming ERC season, Liam Doran qualified his KHM Citroën C4 on pole for the A final but crashed heavily in the first corner after touching the rear wheel of Jochen Coox’s Skoda in the turn. In the restarted race, Scott led from the start. David Binks led the chase but suffered a puncture on his Fiesta. Similar problems slowed Coox and Patrick Van Mechelen and when Julian Godfrey broke the suspension of his Fiesta after hitting a barrier, Grant and Doran progressed to the podium. Derek Tohill beat the Supernational field to take an impressive victory in his ERC TouringCar Fiesta. Class wins went to Tony Lynch (Swift Sport), Ollie O’Donovan (RX150), Michael Duke (Hot Hatch), Rob Gibson (BMW MINI) and Oli Mellors (Junior) while the concurrent Belgian championship round saw victories taken by Marcel Snoijers (Super1600), Koen Pauwels (TouringCar) and Steven Maris (Supernational).
